Hyderabad, Dec 25: Coming back after an injury lay-off, shuttler Parupalli Kashyap stated that he is hopeful regarding Premier Badminton League (PBL) enabling him to rediscover his form and ranking.
“My ranking has dropped seven places as I have not played for the last two months. That’s why, I am hoping to cash in on PBL to recapture my form,” stated Kashyap here Friday. “If I am fit and back to form, I will be again be within the top 10. It will help me in qualifying for the Rio Games. Experience at the top has given me the confidence that I will be able to achieve my goals” Kashyap, who will play for Hyderabad Hunters, added.
Kashyap asserted that he should be in good shape by next week. “Frankly, it is a very crucial period for me. I have just started intense training and the PBL is like a test for me, on where I am and I am guessing that it will make me to come back quicker. I am hoping to hit form early into the event… no one wants to lose when representing a team,” Kashyap stated.
“It is a tough competition. You will have top players. Although Li Chong Wei (Malaysia) is in my team, but others have good players like (Kidambi) Srikanth, (HS) Prannoy, Sai Praneeth. All these players are good,” Kashyap added.
Kashyap, who is currently ranked 15th in world, said he could have maintained his ranking among the top 10 had he just played in the Hong Kong Open and some other events without even putting up a tough fight. “But then that would have been unethical,” said Kashyap. “Just for the sake of rankings… no my pride prevented me from doing that,” Kashyap pointed out.
