Laxmipur: A Class VII student of Dharada Ashram school here in Koraput district Friday sustained injuries after he jumped from a running vehicle to escape a kidnap bid.
Though he was rushed by a scribe to a local community health centre (CHC) in critical condition, his treatment was delayed by a few hours there, it was alleged.
According to reports, Karna Kuldeep (12) of the school set out for Laxmipur from Odiapentha Chhak in a van as his examination had been over the previous day. However, the driver of the vehicle started speeding up towards Koraput instead of stopping it at Laxmipur Chhak.
Though Karna raised an alarm on top of his voice, it was not heard by anyone since the vehicle was closed from all sides. Left with no option, he managed to jump off the vehicle near Laxmipur College. The boy fell unconscious after falling from the speeding van suffering multiple injuries on his body.
Spotting him in a pool of blood, two pedestrians contacted an 108 ambulance to shift him to a hospital but no one responded at the other side. Finally two locals along with Sanjay Kandhapan, a correspondent of Dharitri rushed the boy to the CHC.
However, a doctor at the CHC didn’t bother to administer first aid to the profusely bleeding minor. The treatment started only after Kandhapan warned him of taking up the matter with the CDMO. Though it was already 9 am, the drug distribution centre and the outdoor was not yet opened, the attendants of the patient alleged.
Their attempts to contact the medical officer in-charge to get urgent assistance went in vain as the latter was on leave, it was learnt. PNN
