Konark: The anti-plastic campaign launched by Orissa POST and Dharitri received support from Artatrana Kartikeswar Vidyapeeth and Nuagaon Primary School in Konark.
The students marched in the village and shared awareness messages among the villagers. They also asked the villagers to boycott plastic and polythene bags and urged them to join the drive to make the state plastic-free.
Balunkeswar Barik, the headmaster of Artatrana Kartekeswar Vidyapeeth, Ramkrushna Mohanty, the coordinator of ECO Club, Rabindranath Bahinipati and Dillip Nayak, Binodini Tripathy,Manas Muduli, Niharika Mohanty and Ajay Nayak of Nuagaon Primary School were present.
Holy City students vow to shun plastic
Puri: Students of Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir at Ghoda Bazar in Puri Sunday celebrated Janmashtami by spreading awareness on making Odisha a plastic-free state.
More than a hundred students dressed up as either Lord Krishna or Radha participated in the event. Teachers and members of the school management committee also joined them in educating parents and guardians on the harmful effects of plastic and polythene bags on the environment. They urged the people to boycott plastic bags immediately.
Principal Arabinda Das said, “The drive to make the school plastic-free has been initiated. The students have been asked not to bring any food items in polythene bags. Their parents have been urged to provide them with proper tiffin boxes. The students would be educated about the harmful effects of plastic and polythene bags daily during prayer and in classrooms.”
Some parents who were present at the event vowed to discard plastic completely. They said that they would treat the call to make Odisha plastic-free as a divine ordain from Lord Krishna.
