Jamankira: Road connectivity stood disrupted at Jamankira square in Sambalpur district Wednesday as locals blocked NH-53 demanding faster completion of the National Highway-53 project here.
The road condition between Goudapalli in Sambalpur district and Deogarh town in the namesake district has deteriorated beyond acceptable levels, locals alleged.
Considered the lifeline of Sambalpur district, the NH-53 has been lying incomplete for years owing to negligence on part of the contractor and the authorities concerned.
Demanding immediate completion of the project, local villagers blocked the national highway and staged a demonstration. On being informed, local police reached the spot. Discussions with the agitators were going on at the time of filing this report.
Normal life was thrown out of gear as traffic came to a standstill. Trucks are stranded on either side of the road as demonstrators continue to press for their demand.
