Bhubaneswar: The 59th senior Orissa police officers’ conference concluded at commissionerate office here Friday.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who was the chief guest of the conference, said left wing extremism (LWE) continues to be a major concern for the state. “Though we have contained Naxal menace along the bordering areas, recent ultra movement in Kalahandi, Bolangir, Kandhamal and Boudh is worrisome. We have adequate resources in terms of manpower, equipment and logistics supplemented by the deployment of central armed police forces (CAPFs) to effectively counter the inroads made by the Naxals in central Orissa,” he said.
The Chief Minister also pointed that the senior police officers have been directed to visit their respective districts every month. “SPs have been directed to visit their respective districts in the first week of every month. They have been directed to visit the police stations in the area and also meet some of the complainants to assess the performance of lower-rank cops,” he added.
Patnaik also emphasized that organized crimes like extortion activities involving tender and transport mafias will not be tolerated.
Talking about crimes against women and children, Patnaik said several steps have been taken in this regard and he expects the SPs to personally monitor the investigation of such cases.
“The mahila and sishu desks, the integrated anti-human trafficking units and the women cells are excellent initiatives but they should be fully implemented and activated,” he said, adding the implementation of crime and criminal tracking network and systems (CCTNS) should also be expedited.
Chief Secretary Aditya Padhi, development commissioner Balakrishnan, DGP KB Singh, twin city police commissioner RP Sharma were present during the event.
