Telkoi: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly burnt his wife to death over dowry at Ghodabedsahi under Telkoi police limits in Keonjhar district Wednesday night. The matter came to light after a complaint was lodged with police Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Sabita Mohant (27). The complaint filed by the victim’s father Lambodar Mohant stated that Kuna Mohant had married his daughter five years ago at Gadapalasuni in Dhenkanal district, but had been torturing her for dowry ever since.
During the marriage, Sabita could not be provided dowry as demanded.
Acting on the complaint, local police along with magistrate Dillip Kumar Bara rushed to the spot and recorded the statements of kin of the victim and her neighbours. Post-mortem of the body was conducted at the Telkoi hospital.
“An investigation was on and the accused was arrested,” said IIC Debendranath Pingua.
The couple has a five-month-old daughter.
