Nuapada: Sadar police in a joint operation with CRPF busted a Maoist camp in a forest at Pandripani village near Dharambandha in the border of Odisha and Chhattisgarh Tuesday evening.
While no Maoists were arrested, the CRPF jawans exposed the Ultras’ camp during a combing operation and seized two rifles, two hand grenades, and 12 gelatine sticks, 25 detonators, arms and ammunition along with five kg explosives.
The red rebels have fled before the personnel reached there, reports said.
According to reports, a patrol party was conducting combing operation in the reserve forest near Pandripani village after getting information from a reliable source about the movement of Maoists.
The combing party along with District Voluntary Force (DVF), Special Operations Group cordoned off the area and started search operations. However, sensing the movement of the combing team, the Maoists fled away into the forest.
The raid team has also recovered tiffin bombs, bundles of codex wire, bundles of electric loose wire, Maoist uniforms and other miscellaneous items from the spot.
It is being suspected that the camp was inhabited by Maoist cadres of SDS Division (Sambalpur, Deogarh and Sundergarh).
“This operation was carried out under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Police. He will be monitoring the further combing operation as well. We suspect that these Maoists were from Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Odisha.”
“The combing operation is still on. The security forces have recovered explosives and many daily use materials of the ultras from the camp,” the SP added. The police said a group of Maoists was present and was undergoing training. The presence of some top Maoist leaders cannot be ruled out.
“The ultras managed to escape by taking advantage of the terrain and dense forest,” a police official said.
Notably the security forces and local police had busted a Maoist camp in Nuapada district last Wednesday.
