Bhubaneswar, March 6: Mukteswar Cricket Club (MCC) emerged victorious in the final of the Pushpalata Garabadu Memorial Masters T20 cricket tournament here Sunday beating Paramount Sporting by a single run in a nail-biting final at the Town Club Ground.
Opting to bat, MCC rode on blistering knocks by Angel Romi Mishra (53) and Sukant Jena (49) to post a challenging total of 160/5 in their 20 overs. Rashmi Das bowled well to capture two wickets for Paramount.
In reply, Paramount chased well but fell short by a single run. Man of the match Amaresh Mohanty (88) batted well, but lacked support. Chita Swain (2/19) and Bhawani Mohanty (2/30) bowled with a lot of discipline for the MCC side.
The champion team bagged a cash prize of `20,000 along with a trophy, while the runners-up were richer by `10,000.
Crucial lead
Rayagada got a crucial first innings lead of nine runs against Kalahandi on the first day of the two-day Group-C match in the Kalahandi Cup cricket tournament at the Nimpur Ground in Cuttack, Sunday.
In reply to Kalahandi’s first innings total of 167, Rayagada were 176/9 at stumps. M Srinivas Rao (58) batted well to help Rayagada achieve the important lead. Brajesh Mohanty (4/22) bowled well for Kalahandi. Rao had also taken three wickets earlier.
