Nabarangpur/Papadahandi: A medical team Sunday probed the incident in which 22 children were branded with hot sickles and iron rods in Bhimasahi and Khadara Sahi under Papadahandi block of Nabarangpur district.
The two-member team of Dr Nirakar Bhatt, the president of OMSA and Dr Sushreeta Sethi reached the villages and examined the health of the kids. While the doctors asked the villagers not to trust the faith healers, people admitted that they had committed a mistake.
The team convinced a family to admit their five-month-old baby to the district headquarters hospital.
At least 22 children were branded Saturday in these two villages believing that the health of the kids would improve if they resort to these traditional healing practices on the day of Chitalagi Amvasya.
The children were out of danger, said the doctors. Anganwadi worker Chandrama Maharana, ASHA Hemlata Majhi and health worker Krishna Samal accompanied the team.
