Bhubaneswar: Walking Bookfairs, a mobile bookstore started by two youngsters from the state a few years ago, embarked on a nationwide tour Tuesday. The duo aims to inculcate reading habit through the campaign.
Akshay Routray and Satabdi Mishra, the minds behind Walking Bookfairs, have named their campaign ‘Read More India 2015’. They will be touring Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal as part of the campaign. The tour will cover close to 10,000 km over three months.
The truck that houses their library and sale outlet currently holds 4,000 books. Publishing houses including HarperCollins India, Pan Macmillan India and Parragon Books are supporting the initiative.
“There are no bookshops or libraries in many parts of India, and many people have no access to books. This book tour will give common
people a chance to browse through, read for free or buy books at a discount. This tour also aims to promote good books and good literature among the youth,” Akshay told Orissa POST.
“We will be travelling through all major cities, small towns and villages. We have been getting an overwhelming response to this tour over social media. Many people have written in inviting us to come over to their towns,” Satabdi said.
