Bhubaneswar, June 17: Six young vocalists from the city drenched an audience at Rabindra Mandap in a shower of rain-themed songs Friday. The repertoire presented at the show organised by Sur Sagar Musical Group comprised entirely of film songs related to rains.
Vocalists Gourav, Jagruti, Chirag, Jyotirmayee, Shreyansh and Subhajyoti shared among them 30 Oriya and Hindi songs at the programme aptly named ‘Rim Jhim Gire Sawan’.
Jyotirmayee rendered popular numbers such as ‘Mere Naina Sawan Bhadon’, ‘Apke Nigahon Ne Samjha’, ‘Tu Chanda Mu Chandini’, and ‘Jajabara’.
She has been a regular presence at music reality shows on television and was noted particularly in the programme Indian Idol Junior. She was also a finalist in the reality show ‘Voice of Odisha’.
“Singing is my passion. I was trained by Guru Sarada Prasad Sahoo. Reality shows have given me confidence to learn other things step by step,” Jyotirmayee said of her own experience and passion.
Jagruti, a newbie to the Oriya film music industry, presented songs such as ‘Aji Mu Srabani’, ‘Sun Raha He Naa Tu’, ‘Kora Kagaj’ and ‘Ek Me Aur Ek Tu’. Shreyanshu, a student of Delhi Public School, Nalco, in turn, presented songs including ‘Rim Jhim Gire Sawan’, ‘Saiyaan’, ‘Kora Kagaj’, ‘Pardesiya’, and ‘Maula Mere’.
Biranchi Narayan Kar, who is associated with Sur Sagar told Orissa POST: “These are excellent singers. This organisation gives them a good platform. They had given my daughter Neha such an opportunity and she is now in Mumbai taking part in a musical show. I believe such opportunities will not only help bring talented singers to the fore but also help boost their confidence.”
Instrumentalists Kunu on the dholak, Bapi on drums, Shima on the saxophone, Happy on keyboard and Pinku on the organ gave the singers able accompaniment.
