Bhubaneswar: The Nandankanan zoological park celebrated its 58th Foundation Day Friday. Priyadarshi Mishra, MLA, Bhubaneswar (North) presided over the function, while Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Forest & Environment Department, graced the occasion as the chief guest.
The newly constructed Himalayan black bear enclosure was also dedicated to visitors on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion director of Nandankanan Zoological Park Sisir Kumar Acharya, said, “The year 2018 will witness many changes in the zoo as the toy train will be revamped and so also the ropeway. A new multi-storied car parking area with new food courts are also being constructed, which will be completed by the end of 2018.There will be battery charged vehicles for tourist to visit the botanical garden as well as new street lights from Patia to Nandankanan. The zoo will bear half of the cost of the street lights, while the remaining will be borne by BMC.”
Jayant Kumar Das, deputy director of the zoo, delivered the welcome address, while Girish Kumar Satpathy of State Botanical Garden proposed the vote of thanks. (PNN)
