CM exhorts partymen at 20th BJD Foundation Day to serve people with all humility as their love is above all
Bhubaneswar: BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Tuesday asked his party colleagues to rise above petty politics and serve people with all humility.
Addressing a sea of crowd at Talabania in Puri on the occasion of the BJD’s 20th Foundation Day, Patnaik exhorted his partymen to lead simple lives and serve the people, who are the “real masters.” Patnaik, who is the founder-president of the party since its inception, called on BJD members to dedicate their lives to ‘Maa, Mati and Manisa’ (mother, motherland and humans), and asked them to respect people’s sentiments and meet all promises made to them.
Quoting former President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam, Patnaik said, “Truth and simplicity are self-maintained without any cost.” He emphasized on the importance of service, saying “it is indeed a noble quality and people’s love and support can be own only though service.”
Stating that power, prestige and property are insignificant as compared to people’s love, the BJD chief said, “People are the ultimate masters. So serve them with all humility.” “Let’s pledge to maintain a simple life and serve people,” he added.
With 2019 Assembly and general elections drawing closer, Patnaik’s message was clear to his partymen. He, however, did not make any political statement during his long address.
According to the CM, any news of MPs, MLAs and sarpanchs doing well gives him immense pleasure. Stating that BJD is committed to server Orissa, Patnaik said, “It is now time to fulfill the commitments made to the people,” adding, “Let’s endeavour towards making Orissa more prosperous. Let’s pledge to make it the No 1 state in the country.”
Recalling his initial days in politics, when he was elected an MP from Aska in 1997, Patnaik said, “I have worked for the development of Orissa and its people since the beginning of my political career. I thank the people of Orissa for giving me and the BJD the opportunity to serve them.”
In his address, Patnaik also recalled the contribution of his late father and former CM Biju Patnaik, while remembering Utkalmani Gopabandh Das and Utkal Gourab Madhusudan Das. “These are great men and they will always serve as inspirations to people of Orissa.”
The crowd, which, according to BJD leaders, was over 30,000, began to disperse shortly after Patnaik’s speech. According to many, the large gathering is a reflection of the growing popularity of the Chief Minister and the BJD.
Before Patnaik, various party MPs, MLAs, and frontal wing leaders addressed the gathering. PK Deb, in his address, asked party workers to fight aggressively against the propaganda of BJP and make the people aware of the development activities undertaken by the state government. Panchayati Raj and Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy proposed the vote of thanks.
