Bhubaneswar, Jan 20: Vehicles parked along road near Regional Transport office (BBSR-I) at Bhoinagar causes heavy traffic snarls during peak hours. Top officials have no solution to the issue.
Between 5,000 and 10,000 people visit RTO-1 office everyday for various reasons and a majority of them park their vehicles along the road. During peak hours half of the road space is being occupied by vehicles. Moreover, the RTO-1 office is close to Maharaja Theatre which creates traffic congestion during show times.
“Several vehicles belonging to mobile pollution testing units, driving schools and those brought here for registration are parked on the road. Half of the road space is occupied by parked vehicles. The authorities must place a no-parking board and impose fines on such vehicles,” said Swaraj Mahopatra, a two-wheeler rider.
When contacted, RTO-1 incharge Lal Mohan Sethi told Orissa POST the situation can improve if the visitors start using online facilities.
“Many people who visit this office come to pay various taxes which can also be paid online. However, some like to come to RTO for tax payment,” he said.
Top transport officials informed this paper the main objective of creating RTO-II was to reduce rush in RTO-I, but the situation has not changed.
Some tax payers told
Orissa POST that though they are aware of the online payment facilities they find the manual payment facility convenient and is free from technical errors.
“Online payments are not safe and if there is some error it will create problems and unnecessary losses. So I personally like manual payment facility to avoid these hassles,” said Bijay Sahu, a visitor to RTO-I.
