BHUBANESWAR: In a proud moment for the state, Cuttack girl Aiswarya Sahoo won the gold medal in the eighth national-level school chess tournament in the U-7 category at Raipur in Chhattisgarh recently.
Yashita Rout from Khurda district too struck gold in the U-11 category and increased her ELO rating. Besides, Swastik Subham Pattanaik of Cuttack won the silver medal in the U-7 category and Sarthak Debata of Rourkela won the bronze medal in the U-15 category. The competition began April 3.
Yashita studies at the Loyola school here. This is the second national-level medal for her. In 2015, she had received a silver medal at a chess competition in the U-7 category in Chennai.
