Bhubaneswar, March 26: The Orissa Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has directed the Cuttack collector to submit an action-taken report within four weeks in connection with irregularities under Central Blood Bank of Orissa.
Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain filed a petition in the OHRC stating Central Blood Bank of Orissa authorities are illegally selling more than 200 units of plasma blood to Reliance Life Science, a private company.
Taking cognisance of the complaint (No. 2954/2014), the OHRC has asked the district collector of Cuttack to respond in this connection. The petitioner also mentioned that the sale of plasma blood followed simply an e-mail sent by a deputy director to the blood bank authorities and there was no official order or consent by Orissa State Aids Council (OSAC) or the state health department.
Similarly, several irregularities have come to the fore at the blood bank. The blood bank authorities are not maintaining the register of the donors and recipients, the petition mentioned. They are piling up stock without providing blood to the serious patients suffering from blood cancer, thalassemia and haemophilia, Swain said adding this is a clear case of human rights violation.
Swain urged the commission to direct the government to take disciplinary action against the erring authorities. ue to inaction & unlawful action by the Public Authority violates Human Rights in Public at Large.
