Bhubaneswar: The Orissa Human Rights Commission (OHRC) Thursday directed the Director General, Home Guards and Mayurbhanj SP to submit probe reports within four weeks in connection with alleged incident in which four home guards were made to kneel down at Baripada.
The order was issued by OHRC acting chairperson Justice B K Mishra while taking cognisance of four separate petitions filed with the commission.
Meanwhile, Mayurbhanj SP R Prakash Thursday recorded the statements of the four home guards.
Meanwhile, the All Orissa Home Guards Association (AOHGA) Thursday approached the Orissa Human Rights Commission (OHRC) and Orissa State Commission for Women (OSCW) seeking justice.
Notably, AOHGA has been on an indefinite protest for more than a year, demanding “dearness and washing allowances” to which they are entitled under a Supreme Court order.
“We have been denied many allowances that we are entitled to. The recent incident is a clear violation of human rights. We have brought to the notice of the commission that there are no service conditions for Home Guards,” said Upendra Mahapatra, president of AOHGA.
The woman members of this force also criticised the punishment served to their colleagues.
“This is condemnable. We are demanding stern action against the accused. Otherwise, it will affect the morale of the force,” said Diptimoi Rout, a home guard.
