Bhubaneswar, Jan 10: Orissa entered the semifinals of the 21st National Senior Women’s Football Championship despite losing 0-4 to Manipur in a lop-sided Group-A match at Jabalpur, Sunday. Manipur also qualified for the semifinals as the second team from the group.
Orissa’s unbeaten run was halted by their nemesis Manipur as they surrendered completely against the strong side. Semifinal matches will be played Wednesday.
ECoR emerge champs
East Coast Railway, Bhubaneswar emerged champions of the Hockey India Narayan Singh Memorial Gold Cup All India Hockey Tournament after beating SAIL Hockey Academy, Rourkela 3-1 via penalty shoot-out in the final at Balaghat, Sunday.
The match finished goalless in the stipulated time. In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, ECoR could convert three of their five chances, while SAIL could strike only once. Goal keeper G Tejeswar Roa of ECoR was adjudged the man of the match.
Preparatory camp
Football Association of Orissa (FAO) will organise a preparatory cum selection trial camp of the state sub-junior boys’ football team at Cuttack, starting January 13. FAO has requested all the campers to report in their office with their birth certificates as soon as possible.
Talent search
Tata Football Academy (TFA) in association with Football Association of Orissa (FAO) will conduct a talent search program for its 2016 batch at Cuttack, February 6-7. Interested candidates should contact the FAO office soon.
Two selected
Pyari Xaxa and Sakina Nesa from Orissa have been selected by All India Football Federation (AIFF), Sunday for the senior national women’s coaching camp at Shillong, starting January 17. The camp has been arranged as a preparatory major for the 12th South Asian Games scheduled at Shillong, starting February 5.
