Bhubaneswar, Dec 21: ‘Emerging player of the Year’ Pyari Xaxa scored eight goals including a double hat-trick and Sakina Nesa struck five goals including a hat-trick Monday to help Orissa thrash a hapless Chhattisgarh 17-0 in a match of the 21st East Zone Senior Women’s National Football Championships at Kalyani, West Bengal.
Pyari scored in the 16th, 23rd, 26th, 28th, 57th, 59th, 76th and 81st minutes while Sakina struck in the fifth, 12th, 68th, 80th and 90+2 minutes respectively. Jabamani Tudu (43rd, 70th) scored a brace, while Jasmani Samad (22nd) and Arati Anima Khadia (77th) found the back of the net once.
Such was the dominance of Orissa that Chhattisgarh players were reduced to mere spectators in the field. Orissa will meet Sikkim in their next match Wednesday.
Sunrise aim to defend title
Defending champions Sunrise Club will aim to retain the title, when they meet Rising Students in the final of the FAO First Division Super League final at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack Tuesday.
Last year’s champions Sunrise are a pretty strong outfit andthey have so far dominated the tournament completely en route to the final. With the combination of many talented players of the state and few foreign imports Sunrise have a balanced squad. “We will play to win in the final,” stated coach and former international player Rajendra Prasad Singh.
On the other hand Rising Star are tagged as the dark horse of the tournament. They have beaten a strong team like Radha Raman Club in the semifinal.
“Both the teams are quite strong. No one can be considered favourite for the summit clash. A great final is on the cards,” stated FAO secretary Sanjay Behera.
SSH meet Orissa United
Sundargarh Sports Hostel (SSH) and Orissa United Club of Cuttack won their respective semifinal matches to enter the final of the Biju Patnaik Gold Cup football tournament at the Unit-VI Ground in Bhubaneswar, Monday.
In the first semifinal, SSH pipped Bolangir Sports Hostel by a solitary goal. Bijay Oram scored the all important goal of the match in the 66th minute. In the second semifinal, Orissa United Club scraped past Phulbani Sports Hostel 3-1 via tie-breaker.
