Chhatrapur: Around 20 artificial bird nests were installed Saturday as part of a bird-nesting initiative organised on the premises of the 8th Battalion of the Odisha State Armed Police (OSAP) in Chhatrapur, Ganjam district.
The programme was held under the guidance of Commandant Sharada Prasad Das. Das said the initiative aims to protect birds, conserve the natural environment and promote biodiversity. This unique initiative aims to provide safe shelters for birds by installing artificial nests on trees across the battalion campus.
It has been decided to implement this project in five phases, with about 20 artificial nests installed in the first phase on various trees and in secure locations within the campus. Arrangements were also put in place for food and drinking water.
Further, efforts will be made to set up 100 more bird nests, and suitable measures will be taken to attract an increasing number of birds to the battalion premises in the subsequent phases. Commandant Das and environmentalist Rabindra Sahu highlighted the essential need for co-existence between nature and human beings.
Instructions were issued to all officers and personnel to ensure the timely maintenance of these nests. Deputy Commandant Yashobanta Sethi, Assistant Commandant P. Munda, Inspectors SJ Reddy, S Mangaraj, P Dan Dapath, Girish Chandra Majhi and Trinath Behera, along with all the jawans of the 8th Battalion extended their cooperation during the programme.
