Rayagada: People in various parts of this district are forced to cough up Rs 30 for three pots of water, thanks to cyclonic storm Titli that wreaked havoc in the state.
The disruption is supply of piped drinking water after the cyclone has compounded the woes of the residents. Some unscrupulous people are cashing in on the situation and selling drinking water to various households.
Titli has left many utility poles uprooted and power lines snapped. The power supply is yet to be restored at some places, resulting in the water supply problem.
Municipality and PHED are supplying drinking water through tankers in various localities. But the tanker supply can hardly solve the problem prevailing for the last three days. “The tanker supplied drinking water caters to the needs of only 10 per cent of the households,” a local said.
Gautam Nagar, Convent Road, Nehru Nagar, Budrawalsa, Raniguda Farm, Kasturi Nagar, Saipriya Nagar, Rayat Colony, Mankadjhola, Mangala Temple Road and Ring Road are some of the areas where the problem of drinking water has assumed serious proportions.
Even as Southco has been making efforts to restore electricity at the earliest, people are living without power for more than 40 hours.
