Bhubaneswar, Jan 11: Orissa started their BCCI Senior Women’s T20 cricket tournament campaign on a poor note as they suffered a 54- run loss Monday against Railways in their first match.
Opting to bat first, Railways scored 135 runs for the loss of three wickets in their 20 overs. Star player Mithali Raj (74) scored a blistering half century and she was well supported by MD Tirusikhamani (39).
In reply, Orissa batted at a snail’s pace and could manage only 80 runs in the allotted 20 overs for the loss of two wickets. Madhuri Mehta (40) was the only player to impress with the bat. But she failed to get support from the other batswomen of the side. Orissa will play their next match against Goa, Tuesday.
