Cuttack, Dec 18: Rovers Club emerged champions of the FAO 2nd Division Football League after registering a convincing 2-0 victory over Club N Club in the final at the Barabati Stadium here Friday. By winning the title they qualified to play in the first division league 2016.
Rovers dominated the match completely scoring a goal each in the two sessions. Prafulla Minz drew first blood in the 36th minute and Dasarathi Kanhar doubled the tally in the 72nd minute. Club N Club tried their best till the last moment, but could not open their account.
Rising Students win
Rising Students Club entered the semifinals of the FAO First Division Super League after scraping past Rising Star Club 3-2 in a match at the Barabati Stadium here Friday.
Antaryami Nayak turned out to be the hero for Rising Students, scoring a brace in the first and 56th minutes respectively. Anil Deep found the back of the net in the 23rd minute. Additola Abbey and Sahouvraj Modi struck once each for Rising Star in the 12th and 63rd minutes respectively.
Rising Student Clubs will meet Radha Raman Club in the first semifinal, while Sunrise Club will face Rising Star Club in the second, Saturday.
Orissa finish third
Orissa finished third in the 29th All India Postal Football Championships after prevailing over Jammu & Kashmir 5-2 via tie-breaker in the 3-4th position play-off match at Bangalore, Friday.
BSH advance
Bolangir Sports Hostel (BSH) entered the semifinals of the IXth Biju Patnaik Gold Cup football tournament pipping Nayagarh Sports Hostel by a solitary goal at the Unit-VI High School Ground here Friday. Bhagban Chuniar of the winning team scored the all-important goal in the 21st minute.
