Bhubaneswar: In a bid to provide hassle-free services to motorists without having valid documents, the state government has decided to hold camps at block and sub-divisional levels for issuing vehicle-related documents.
To facilitate issuance of Learner’s Licences (LLs) and Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates, the government will open special camps at select blocks and sub-divisional headquarters. Testing of vehicles for PUC will be conducted at these camps, Commerce and Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera said.
Similarly, LLs will be issued to applicants on the spot while DLs will be issued later after proper examination, the minister said. Behera’s announcement comes a day after the state government made online pollution check certificates mandatory with effect from October 1.
The main objective behind this move is to facilitate people in obtaining necessary documents so that they can comply with new traffic norms under the amended Motor Vehicles Act, 2019.
Though the new traffic rules came into effect from September 1, 2019, the state government announced relaxation in document checking for a period of three months following a massive public outcry over collection of hefty fines.
