Bhubaneswar: Rutuparna Choudhury and Ameek Kiran Batth of Odisha advanced into the women’s singles quarterfinals after registering contrasting victories over their respective opponents in the AITA-OTA 50k Women’s Ranking tennis tournament here at the Mendhasal courts, Tuesday.
Unseeded Rutuparna had an easy outing as she defeated eighth seed Medhavi Singh of Bihar 6-4, 6-1 in straight sets. After winning the closely-contested first set, Rutuparna hardly gave any chance to Medhavi in the second set to close out the match.
Meanwhile, Ameek had to sweat it out against statemate and seventh seed Anaam Almas before pulling out a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win. After losing the first set tamely, Annam came back strongly to win the second set to take the match to the decider. However Anaam failed to continue her consistency as Ameek pulled off an important victory.
