Cuttack, Dec 24: SAI Training Centre, Cuttack emerged overall champions in the Cuttack District Athletic Meet which concluded at the Barabati Stadium here, Thursday. PB Athletic Coaching Centre clinched the title in the men’s and the women’s category.
Altogether 1,100 participants from 50 sports institutions of the district took part in 80 events of this competition. Based on the performance here, 150 athletes have been selected for the State Athletic Championships which will take place at the same venue, December 28-30.
GDD, Sailabala triumph
Sailabala Women’s College and Gopinath Dev Degree (GDD) College clinched the title of the men’s and the women’s categories in the Utkal University Inter-College Wrestling Championships at the premises of MS Law College here Thursday.
DRIEMS College finished runners-up in the men’s segment, while hosts MS Law College secured the second position in the women’s category. Madhu Tirkey took the top honours in the individual 48 kg category, while Subarna Nayak stood second. Bebina Rout emerged champion in the women’s 55kg category and Subhasmita finished runners-up.
In the men’s 97kg category, Thakur Sangram Singh grabbed the first position, while Bikash Kumar Nayak stood second. Harishankar Panda clinched the title of the men’s 67kg category and Arjun Panda finished runner-up. Altogether 12 colleges participated in the competition.
Kulada win
Kulada Sporting defeated NRCA by 20 runs in a match of the Panchagada cricket tournament at Banarpal, Thursday. Opting to bat first, Kulada scored 167 in the stipulated 25 overs. In reply NRCA could manage only 147 against some disciplined bowling by the opposition and losing wickets early on did not help their cause.
