Langaleswar: A 60-year-old man was arrested in Bhanupur village, Balasore district, for allegedly raping and impregnating his 13-year-old niece, police said Friday.
The accused, Adaita Mandal, was detained by the girl’s family Thursday night after the crime was uncovered. A large crowd of villagers gathered at the scene upon hearing the news.
Singla police responded promptly, arresting Mandal and taking him into custody.
According to authorities, the minor was repeatedly coerced into physical relationship by Mandal while working in a vegetable garden. He allegedly threatened to kill her parents if she spoke about the abuse.
After the girl displayed signs of pregnancy, a medical examination confirmed she was pregnant. The victim underwent a medical examination Friday and police have filed a case (173/25).
