Bhubaneswar: As many as 129 licensees or shop owners who were evicted from Ashoka market to facilitate Bhubaneswar Town Centre (BTC) project were allotted shops at different locations by Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) Monday.
According to officials, the shop owners will be accommodated at Chandralok Market Complex, Niladri Vihar, Ananta Vihar Market Complex, Pokhariput, Samanta Vihar Market Complex near Kalinga Hospital Square, Kalinga Nagar Market Complex (K-7 and one in K-8 of Kalinga Nagar), Indradhanus Market Complex, Nayapalli and Surya Kiran Market Complex in Sahid Nagar for a temporary.
But, some shop owners moved the Orissa High Court against the BMC decision. However, the High Court directed the licensees to shift their shops to the new locations allotted by BDA within two weeks to help BDA to go ahead with constructions for the BTC project.
“Vacating the Ashoka Market Building is vital for the BTC project as the complex is close to the railway station where the majestic structure and the multi-modal hub would come up,’’ said BDA Allotment Officer (II) Diganta Routrai.
Member (Enforcement) and additional BDA commissioner Bhabani Shankar Chayani said “Through lottery we have allotted 129 shops at eight locations to shop owners of Ashoka Market and as per the orders of the court. They will have to vacate the complex within 15 days. After that the Enforcement Wing would take appropriate action.’’

Orissa POST these shop owners have to vacate the complex within 15 days starting October 9. Singapore-based Surbana Jurong September 26, won the prestigious bid to design the ambitious BTC project, which will be the first such transit-oriented development (TOD) project in the country.
The project, being developed by BDA on 12acre area, is on the west side of railway tracks at Master Canteen Square. It is accessible directly from the Janpath.
Both the ECoR and Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited will be the main stakeholders of the project. The project will comprise theatre plaza, retail shops and malls, nature plaza, landscape, art plaza, experience plaza and children’s plaza. This will also have food courts, service apartments, streets along with dedicated pedestrian and cycling paths.
