Bhubaneswar, July 24: When it comes to the much-awaited light and sound show at Konark temple, everything is hunky dory—if the Tourism department is to be believed. The department has claimed that they have conducted successful trials and are ready to launch the show. Visitors may get a chance to behold the beauty and magnificence of a spectacular light and sound show at Konark in just 15 days time. “The trail run of the show has been completed and everything is perfect. We are now waiting for finalisation of the date for its inaugurations. We are expecting, it will be done in the next 15 days. We are waiting for Chief Minister’s nod to the date of launch,” director of tourism department Nitin B Jawale told Orissa POST. “As of now everything is in order.
We have reviewed everything that’s necessary; infrastructure work for the show has been almost completed. A committee has been formed and the Puri Collector has been given the charge to manage the show,” he informed. Informing about the number of shows to be held, he said, “As of now only one show will be held every day. It will be in conducted in three languages Oriya, Hindi and English. Since we are giving language option, there is no requirement of doing multiple shows. But if there’s demand, then we may think of increasing the number of shows. We have decided the timing of the show. It will start from 7 pm and continue till 8 pm.” Around 200 tourists will be able to watch the show together. “Therewill be sitting arrangements for more than 200 people. They will wear headphones to listen the great history of the temple.” When asked about ticket price, Jawale said, “We are yet to fix the price but it will be reasonable. It is meant to boost tourism. This is not much for commercial angles as much as for promotional purpose.” Around Rupees 5.5 crore have been invested for the project. It has been executed by the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) and funded by the state government. The 40 minute show narrates the great history related to the temple. While Bollywood actor Kabir Bedi has narrated the historical and religious significance of the 13th century monument in English, popular actor Shekhar Suman has lent his voice to the narration in Hindi. Veteran Oriya actor Bijay Mohanty lent his voice for the Oriya version.
