Bhubaneswar, Dec 1: Sports Hostel emerged overall team champions in the Bhubaneswar Annual Athletics Meet organised by Bhubaneswar Athletic Association which concluded at the Kalinga Stadium here Tuesday. City Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena was present as the chief guest in the closing ceremony and distributed the prizes.

Top players scripted easy victories in the snooker event of the 22nd State Billiards and Snooker Championships at the Vintage Club here Tuesday. Top seed Asutosh Padhy, who won the billiards title Monday, had an easy outing against Sudipta Dash, winning 3-0 (56-30, 81-1, 73-18). In the other matches played, Jiten Sarangi overcame Ahsan ul Haq 3-2, Indrejeet Sarangi defeated Amresh Swain 3-0 while Biraj Dash overcame a stiff resistance from N Harikrishna, before winning 3-2.

Nalco (Angul), Bhubaneswar XI and Birmitrapur XI registered facile victories in the professional segment of the 1st Inter-city Gold Cup hockey tournament in Rourkela, Tuesday.
Nalco trounced Rourkela City Police 4-1, while Bhubaneswar XI carved an emphatic 3-0 victory over SAI SAG, Sundargarh. In the third match played at the Panposh Sports Hostel ground, Birmitrapur XI trounced CRPF, Orissa 9-2. Md. Riaz got a hat-trick for the winners.
In the fourth match of the day, SAIL Hockey Academy shared six goals with Sports Hostel, Sundargarh.
