Binjharpur: A student leader was arrested on charge of luring his niece into physical relationship on the pretext of marriage under this police limits in Jajpur district, police said Wednesday.
The accused, Jeetendra Pradhan, was arrested from Panikoili bus-stand Monday night. Later, he was taken for a medical examination and produced in court, Tuesday.
The accused was earlier the president of BJD’s students’ wing in Binjharpur block but was suspended from the post after his name figured in the case.
Police said, Jeetendra lured the girl for a physical relationship on the promise of marriage seven years back and since then he was in a relationship with her. However, the girl lodged a complaint at the police station after Jeetendra’a marriage was fixed elsewhere.
Police registered a case and started an investigation but the accused fled the area after his name figured in the case. Meanwhile, police arrested one of the brothers and a brother-in-law of Jeetendra and produced them in court.
On being apprised about the case, Jajpur SP Charan Singh Meena directed formation of a special police team to nab the accused. The special police team arrested him when he was trying to board a bus for his village.
