Kendujhar: Clash between two groups of students has triggered student unrest at the hostel of Odisha School of Mining Engineering in Kendujhar after a second-year student was allegedly assaulted by a third-year student. Police reached the spot Friday, brought the situation under control and launched an investigation.
Sources said that an argument broke out Thursday between some second-year students and a third-year student over drinking alcohol. The argument later escalated into a physical altercation in which a second-year student was injured. He was taken for medical treatment, sources said.
Police reached the hostel after tension mounted and took steps to restore calm. They are investigating the exact cause of the incident, the number of students involved in the melee and whether any other issue was behind the clash.
School authorities are also collecting information about the incident. Sources said one student involved in the incident has been asked to leave the hostel. Town police station officer Srikant Sahu said the situation was normal and police were keeping a close watch on the developments. No complaint has been received so far, he said. Meanwhile, the hostel superintendent and school authorities have been holding discussions with the students in an effort to resolve the dispute. School authorities were not available for comment on the incident.
