Bhubaneswar, March 23: Eliza Tripathy, a 21-year-old engineering student from the city, was on cloud nine last year after she finished writing her first book, a mystery novel which she named The Legitimate Light. Buoyed by the appreciation and rave reviews from her friends and family, she started making rounds of publishing houses in order to get her book out in the market.
“I went through a lot of trouble finding a publisher for my maiden effort. The spate of initial rejections flummoxed me as I was quite confident of my work. I didn’t expect to be rejected by publishers. I unsuccessfully tried my luck with several publishers. But I was never deterred from my goal. One day, I received an email from a prominent publisher confirming acceptance of my work. That really helped instill a dose of much-needed self-confidence, and now I’m looking forward to writing another book,” Eliza says.
Like Eliza, many young students from the city are considering becoming a full-fledged writer, and in the meanwhile are effortlessly juggling studies and passion. Akhil Srivastava is one such example. A medical student, Akhil recently authored a book in Hindi called Main Vastavikta Ka Shaukeen (Passionate about Practicality).
“The book was inspired by the struggle I faced during my preparations for medical exams. Initially, I could not crack the exam which led to a phase of depression. However, I kept fighting and succeeded later. This encouraged me to write a self-motivational book for many who might have gone through a similar phase like I did. I hope the book comes as help for those who want to fight the negative energy within and prove their worth in society,” Akhil says.
Tanmay Kulshrestha is an engineering graduate who is now employed with an IT firm. “The writing bug bit me when I was in my first year of engineering. I first tried my hand at blogging in order to let my ideas flow, and then wrote a love story with a message called The Meth. I spoke to a lot of people while writing that book and now I’m planning to write another two books this year. Nothing gives you greater pleasure than pursuing your passion,” says Kulshrestha, who aspires to become a Bollywood writer.
