Bhubaneswar: Students of Dhauli College of Art and Crafts near the ‘Dhauli Shanti Stupa’ here have made an idol of architect-god Lord Vishwakarma with pictures of 1,600 architectural marvels across the globe to celebrate the ‘Vishwakarma puja’ Tuesday.
Out of numerous pandals put up across the city to worship lord Vishwakarma, the college has become a crowd puller for its one of a kind idol.
The idol, created employing a collage style, has been a source of attraction. It, at the same time, disseminates a message about the importance of preserving magnificent sculptures.
The idol has images of giant wheel, horses and lissome dancers of Konark Sun Temple, Jagannath temple in Puri, Lingaraj temple, the arch of Mukteswar temple, Baitala temple, Dhauli peace pagoda, Khandagiri cave etc on its body. These apart, the hymns dedicated to lord Vishwakarma are also present on the idol.
Under the guidance of sculpture department lecturer Chandan Kumar Samal, Rajeswar Mahapatra, Ranjit Pani, Sudhanshu Buxi, Rakesh Biswal and some others, the students took eight days to give shape to their imagination.
“As students of sculpture department, we believe that Lord Vishwakarma is present in all the architectural marvels. That is the reason; we decided to use the images of all the significant sculptures in creating the clay idol of the god,” a student said.
