Bhubaneswar, Dec 19: In an important match of the sixth round, Subhasis Barik forced higher-rated Smaraki Mohanty to share points with him in the Kendrapara Open chess tournament at Kendrapara, Saturday.
After the completion of the sixth round, Smaraki of KIIT, Subhasis of Bhubaneswar and Rajesh Nayak of Puri are sharing the joint top spot with 5.5 points each. Five players are in joint second spot with five points apiece. They are Soumyaranjan Mishra, Ashirwad Swain, Dasarathi Sahoo, Sanjeeban Nayak and Manas Ranjan Moharana. In joint third are Vaibhav Mishra, Rabindra Ojha and Satyabrata Kar with four points each.
In other matches of the sixth round, Miracle Panda outwitted GC Mohapatra and Anantyoya Chatterji got the better of Shreya Smruti Mohanty, Prafulla Kumar Sahoo prevailed over Ashis Patnaik and Biswaranjan Mohanty outwitted Biswa Prakash Singh.

VBSP Jounpur thrashed RSS University 3-0 in a match of the East Zone Inter-University hockeytournament at the Biju Patnaik Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, Saturday. In the second match Sambalpur University held Ranchi University to a 2-2 draw.
