Mumbai: If you grew up in the 90s, then you must definitely be familiar with ‘Shaktimaan’.
‘Shaktimaan’, once called the country’s first superhero, was very popular among children at that time.
There have been reports that actor Mukesh Khanna may soon launch the second season of the serial, although questions have also been raised about the reason for the closure of the show.
And the actor has finally revealed why in full detail.
“Earlier ‘Shaktimaan’ used to broadcast Saturday morning and Tuesday evening. The show was going well despite being non-prime time. In those days, Doordarshan had to pay Rs 3.80 lakh for the show and we used earn from advertisements. This is how 100-150 episodes went,” said Mukesh.
Mukesh further said: “I was later told by Doordarshan that ‘Shaktimaan’ is popular so it should be aired Sunday. Children also have holidays on that day.”
“After completion of 104 episodes of the show, I was asked to give Rs 10.80 lakh and it was a huge amount for me. Then I came to know that they (Doordarshan) were thinking to make Rs 16 lakh later in the year. I opposed it but they paid no attention,” he said.
“I was facing loss. I never wanted to stop ‘Shaktimaan’ but I had to do it under compulsion,” he added.
The actor further said: “People are constantly asking me about the second season of ‘Shaktimaan’. I am also eagerly waiting for it.”
The show started in September 1997 and ran until March 2005.
