Laxmipur, March 16: A threat of bird flu has loomed over the state as over 500 chickens died after being affected by a mysterious disease in different villages of Laxmipur block under Koraput district over last
few days.
Though these chickens were administered medicines as prescribed by veterinary doctors, they did not survive. Death of these chickens has created panic among people as they apprehend that it may be the sign of an outbreak of bird flu.
However, it is yet to be confirmed whether these chickens were actually affected by bird flu or not. The locals, meanwhile, have demanded urgent steps to check the spread of the mysterious disease.
The administration has not initiated any step to prevent worsening of the situation in the area. Even as the state government has been struggling to contain the spread of jaundice and swine flu in different parts of the state, outbreak of bird flu is likely to worsen the situation, sources said.
