Bhubaneswar: Following a direction by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi has asked all the secretaries to use social media for improvement in governance.
Reviewing the performance of all the departments recently, Padhi said about 65 per cent of the population are below 35 years of age who could be addressed through social media more effectively. He also suggested launching of mobile apps which would be more helpful.
Electronics and IT secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena presented an action plan on use of social media and said currently more than 30 mobile apps have been developed and put for use under various departments.
The chief secretary further advised the departments to convert more and more public services into digital mode and put them on e-service platform.
Last month, the CM had also asked the departments to use social media like facebook, twitter and YouTube to establish a two-way communication between the administration and citizens.
Padhi also appreciated the performance of panchayati raj department at national-level in the matters of rural housing projects. The department could complete more than 6.5 lakh Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) houses during 2015-16 fiscal for which Orissa secured the eligibility for availing more number of houses for the current year.
