Cuttack: A youth was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital with grievous injuries after he was attacked by a gang comprising three miscreants in the middle of a busy road here Monday.
The incident took place near Golai Square under Jagatpur police limits on the National Highway 16. The victim, Konda Prasad, suffered severe head injuries.
Sources said Prasad, who owns a transport business at Manguli Square and stays at a rented accommodation in Sikharpur area, received a call on his cellphone in the morning wherein the caller abused him and threatened to kill him. Prasad, however, ignored the threats and left for his work.
While he was on his way to his work place in Manguli Square, miscreants waylaid and attacked him. The miscreants started kicking and punching him mercilessly in full public view on the busy national highway. When he fell down on the ground, the miscreants trampled him. One of the miscreants then crashed an empty glass bottle on his head. Prasad pleaded with them to let him go, but to no avail.
As the youth was lying on road and profusely bleeding from head, none came to his rescue, remained mute spectators to the gory incident. The miscreants fled the spot after terrorising the locals with a gun. A complaint has been lodged in this connection and police have begun a probe.
