Raisuan: A tribal girl was rendered critical after she was raped by a youth in the neighbourhood on the pretext of marriage near here in Keonjhar district. She has been hospitalised, police said.
According to the FIR, the victim was in love with the accused, Raju Patra (25) in Teliabandh village. Raju went to her home and convinced the girl to elope with him while her family members were busy with a marriage function.
Raju took her to a cashew orchard near the Raisuan College square around 8 at night. He allegedly raped the girl throughout the night.
Later, he took her to Ghatiburu village in neighbouring Jharkhand village, left her at an isolated place and fled the scene. Devastated, the girl approached a local Pardeshi Hembram and narrated her ordeal to him. She was then taken to the Raisuan government hospital.
Doctors there referred her to the Karanjia government hospital as her condition was critical. From there, she was shifted to the Keonjhar district hospital.
Family members were informed, and they rushed to the DHH and informed the police about the incident. Police reached the DHH and recorded the girl’s statement. The accused would be arrested soon, police said.
