Aska: In a tragic incident, a woman and her daughter were killed while her husband was critically injured when a speeding truck hit them on the Aska-Kabisuryanagar road near Mukundapur Chhak in Ganjam district Tuesday.
The incident occurred when G Sarkili Reddy (45) of Magura village under Aska police limits was taking his wife G Kuntuli Reddy (40) to Aska government hospital for a medical check-up with his 13-year-old daughter Nikita Reddy on a bike.
A truck en route to Berhampur hit the two-wheeler from the rear following which the trio fell on the road. The truck ran over the mother-daughter duo killing the minor girl on the spot and critically injuring the woman.
Kuntuli was rushed to the Aska hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. Sarkili has been undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Locals staged protests on the spot after the mishap. A police team reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The bodies were handed over to the family after autopsy while the truck driver was detained and a probe was launched, police said.
