Bhubaneswar: National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) members of Utkal University here have levelled allegations of favouritism and irregularity in the ongoing teacher recruitment drive at Vani Vihar.
Subrat Behera of NSUI said the administrators have showed favouritism in the process of recruitment. “The advertisement for the posts of readers made by Utkal University is incoherent as compared to those of the National Law University of Orissa and Berhampur University,” said Behera.
“The condition in Clause-3 of UGC guidelines mentioned that a person with requisite years of experience and qualification needs to have evidence of guided research,” stated Behera adding this clause has been dropped deliberately by the Utkal authorities.
Rubbishing the allegations, Utkal University vice-chancellor Asok Das told Orissa POST that there was no such deviation in the recruitment process. They have recruited 52 faculty members in the university so far, he added.
“We have thoroughly followed the guidelines of UGC. I haven’t seen the advertisement of Berhampur University or National Law University, but if anyone finds any discrepancy in our advertisement, I don’t have anything to say. However, if our advertisement violates UGC norms, we are answerable for that,” said Das.
Meanwhile, the NSUI members remained firm on their stand and stated that irregularities were committed in departments of Biotechnology, Geography, Physics and Chemistry. The NSUI demanded a judicial probe into the issue.
