Bhubaneswar: Using tinted and reflective glasses in vehicles is prohibited under traffic rules and motorists who do so will have to pay a fine of `500, the Commissionerate police said Sunday.
The Motor Vehicle Act mandates that vehicles use 70 per cent visible light transmission (VLT) material for the front and rear windscreens and 50 per cent for side windows, twin city police commissioner RP Sharma pointed out at a function to mark Road Safety Week here Sunday.
In 2012, the Supreme Court directed that section 100 (2) of the Central MV Act should be strictly enforced across the country, Sharma said.
The police commissioner also said two new traffic police stations will soon be set up in the twin cities — one in Chandrasekharpur or Khandagiri in the capital city and another in Buxi Bazaar in Cuttack. As many as 170 police personnel will be engaged in the two police stations, he said. The Commissioner said he had submitted a proposal in this regard to the state government.
BMC Mayor Anant Narayan Jena, who attended the event, said around 450 new buses will soon be added to the city’s fleet to tackle the rush of commuters.
