Kendrapara: A newly-married woman allegedly committed suicide at her house in Andara village under Pattamundai block of Kendrapara district Sunday.
Family members of the deceased Namita Mallick lodged an FIR against six persons, including her husband and in-laws and two other villagers at the Pattamundai police station alleging that she had been regularly tortured for dowry that could have forced her to take the extreme step.
Namita was working as a school teacher for the last six years. She married Debasish Mallick two years back, but her fortunes changed when her in-laws allegedly tortured her, demanding more dowry.
Namita ended her life by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room Sunday night.
Police sent her body for post-mortem.
