Bhubaneswar: Kharvelnagar police Friday arrested a ‘‘high profile’’ woman for taking fish from Unit IV area here without paying to the vendor.
The police identified the woman as Sonali Monalisa.
“Monalisa came in an SUV to the fish market and picked fish from a fisherwoman but did not pay for it. The fish seller said when she demanded money, Monalisa slapped her,” the police said.
“The other fish sellers came to the seller’s rescue and did not allow Monalisa to flee the marketplace. Fearing attack, Monalisa went inside her vehicle and raised its glasses. On information, we reached the spot and rescued her,” the police added.
Sources said Monalisa used to come frequently to the market in an SUV and harass fish sellers impersonating wife of a policeman.
“Monalisa used to threaten the male fish sellers by saying that she will lodge fake complaints against them with police when they asked her for money. She used to claim that she is very influential and has contacts with top cops, and self-styled godman like Sarathi Baba.,” the sources added.
Kharvelnagar police IIC Sanjeev Satpathy said Monalisa was arrested for taking fish and not paying for it. He, however, said he had no knowledge about Monalisa’s husband.
