Nuapada: A woman allegedly immolated herself over some unknown reason at Badi village under Khariar block in this district late Monday night. The deceased was identified as Baidehi Majhi (22).
According to police reports, after all family members fell asleep after dinner Monday the woman doused herself with kerosene and set her ablaze.
Hearing her screams, family members woke up and tried to save her, but all in vain. She was almost burnt and succumbed to the burn injuries.
Though the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the woman was unhappy with her marriage that took place in March 2018.
On receiving information from the family, Khariar police reached the spot and seized the body. They have sent the body for post-mortem and are investigating into the matter.
