Rayagada: A woman sarpanch died late Saturday night after being bitten by a venomous snake in Rayagada district. The deceased was identified as Manga Kadraka, sarpanch of Kuli panchayat under Rayagada block.
According to reports, Manga was asleep at home when a venomous snake bit her on the right leg. She informed her husband, Suri Kadraka, who rushed her to the Rayagada district headquarters hospital in an ambulance. Despite treatment, she succumbed late in the night.
News of her death spread grief across Kuli panchayat as well as in parts of Rayagada and Kolnara blocks.

Former Rajya Sabha member N Bhaskar Rao, former minister Lalbihari Himirika, former Zilla Parishad chairperson Gangadhar Pualla, and block vice chairman Haraprasad Hepruka were among those who expressed condolences.
