Belpahar: Police arrested a youth on the charge of kidnapping and raping a minor girl here in Jharsuguda district Thursday.
The accused was identified as Bhima Khadia (23), a native of Budhipadar in the district. The accused and the victim were taken for medical examination and later Khadia was produced in a court. He was arrested under Section-371 of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
According to police, the incident occurred when Khadia had been to Belpahar and kidnapped the minor and ran away with her in October, last year. Police registered a case of missing and launched a manhunt after the girl’s mother lodged a complaint October 30.
Acting on a tip-off, the police rescued Khadia and the girl from a house in Jharsuguda Wednesday.
