Chhatrapur: A man was killed in an organised attack Saturday at Brahmaniapalli village under Chhatrapur police limits in Ganjam district.
The deceased was identified as A Lachheya Patra, 32, a resident of Brahmaniapalli village. He hailed from Sasanapalli village under Purushottampur block but had been staying at his maternal grandfather’s house at Brahmaniapalli since his childhood.
According to reports, around seven to eight persons allegedly attacked Lachheya near a railway crossing close to the village Saturday over some reason. On being informed, his father, A Dilu Patra, rushed to the spot to rescue his son. He rescued Lachheya in a critical condition and rushed him to Chhatrapur hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment that night.
Following the death, his father lodged a complaint at Chhatrapur police station. He reportedly named the accused in his complaint, stating he recognised them.
Chhatrapur police registered a case (399/2025) and launched an investigation. The accused are currently absconding. The body has been handed over to the family members after a post-mortem.
