Puri: A youth was critically injured as a gang of four miscreants set him on fire over some enmity at Delang area in this district Sunday night. The youth received 80 per cent burn injuries and was admitted to the Cuttack-based SCB Medical College and Hospital. He was Basant Chatei of Delang.
According to police, Basant had a fight with the four a few days ago. The four then hatched a plan to eliminate him. They overpowered him and set him on fire after dousing him with petrol while he was returning home from work. Hearing his screams for help, locals rushed to the spot.
Basant was admitted to a local health centre after which he was referred to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. As his condition worsened he was shifted to the SCB late at night. Police registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the miscreants.
